Dr.Hanish Babu, MD, Feature Writer on Suite101.com, is a dermatologist, presently practicing in the Middle East.

Dr.Hanish Babu, after qualifying for his medical degree (MBBS) in 1983, worked among the poor tribals in the Western Ghats of Southern India for 6 years. He managed a 15 bedded hospital all by himself during this period and gained rich experience in treating common as well as exotic tropical diseases in the fields of medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics and dermatology.

Social Service Activities

During this period, he also found time for social service activities. He was instrumental in setting up the first Voluntary Blood Donor's Directory in Wayanad, Kerala in 1985. He had the good fortune, as the project chairman in 1988 for the Lions Club International Community Marriage in Kalpetta, to find suitable spouses for 27 poor girls and get them married in a unique public function where 3 major religious ceremonies were performed in a single platform.

Dr.Hanish Babu as the Kalpetta Jaycees (now Junior Chamber International) President in 1987-88 bagged 13 State Awards including the Best Social Service Activity, Best Training Programs, and second Best Chapter President of the State. He became the State Trainer of Indian Jaycees and conducted scores of leadership, stress management and health education seminars for the lay public as well as professionals and students.

Educational and Academic Activities

Dr.Hanish Babu earned his post graduate degree MD in Dermatology & STD (Skin & Sexually Transmitted Diseases) in 1992. During this period his research articles were published in Indian Journal of Dermatology. He also wrote extensively about health issues in newspapers. After practicing for 4 years as Consultant Dermatologist in India, in 1996, he joined City Medical Centre, Ajman, UAE as Dermatologist where he has been working till date.

Intrigued by the effect of psyche on soma (mind over body), Dr.Babu has done an indepth study of Stress, its effects on the mind and body and effective stress management techniques. He qualified for a Diploma in Advanced Stress Management Techniques from Stonebridge Associated Colleges (UK) in 2006 and also has released a complete Stress Management Program online, the "10 Days to Stress Free Life". He also conducts regular stress management sessions as part of group therapy for his patients suffering from psychosomatic illnesses.

Dr.Hanish Babu is a holder of a Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine from American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.
